Wow. Just, wow. I have no words. 

I may be late to the party, but I just watched a short clip of a speech given by former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm at the DNC. It is kind of like watching a huge car wreck: it is gut-wrenchingly awful, but I just can’t take my eyes off of it. 

The sad sacks in the audience have so completely imbibed of the Obama mind-altering elixir that they are no longer in control of their own bodies. Their mouths drip praise for the man who supposedly “saved the American auto industry.” It looks like a better-dressed (sort of) Grateful Dead concert. The only thing missing is Mitt Romney burning in effigy, although this was certainly implied. What exactly do they put in that convention punch anyway? 

Some things are better left to speak for themselves, and this is surely a candidate for that category. I can’t add much in the way of commentary that this video doesn’t say on its own. Watch and enjoy (and then weep and pray for any Democrats in your neighborhood).

For the unemployment rate to be as high as it is, she sure threw some big numbers out there. But, we also know how they cook the books. 

There was A LOT of audacity in there, too... what, with it’s looking like GM’s gonna need ANOTHER bail-out SOON!

And, I can GUARANDAMNTEE you that I'm NOT praying for any Communists in MY neighborhood or ANY OTHER neighborhoods in the friggin' world.

I’m going to take the day off from bashing Obimbo. Yeah, it’s a hard thing to do, but I’m going to let Todd Cefaratti of The Tea Party.Net bash the second best person that I take great pleasure in despising... Harry Reid. Actually, it’s a close tie between Reid and Pelosi, but Reid’s got it today.

OK, the uniforms the US Olympic Team will be wearing in the London Games were made in China. They were not paid for with tax dollars but instead by Ralph Lauren who designed them and had them produced in one of his factories. It would have been nice to have them made here but thanks to overreaching unions, America really does not have much of a garment industry left. 

In an obvious pandering play to the union powers, Harry Reid was “outraged” by such a travesty. “The USOC should be embarrassed, they should be humiliated. ... Our athletes should not wear clothes manufactured in China.” He went on to say, “they should be placed in a pile and burned”. 

Forget for a moment how you feel about the uniform issue itself and consider Reid’s record on foreign manufacturing.  

Fact 1. The government gave now bankrupt solar panel manufacturer, Solyndra, nearly half a billion dollars for nothing. 

Fact 2. When Harry Reid pushed through funding and sweetheart land deals for a huge solar power generating facility near his home town in Nevada, the solar panels were purchased from his good friend, and Chinese manufacturing billionaire, Wang Yusuo. You guessed it, the panels installed in Nevada were made in China! 

I am sure it is a mere coincidence that Harry Reid’s son, Rory Reid, is employed as a lobbyist for the solar venture!

No need to thank me, folks. My duty and I saw it. I KNEW the lamestream media wouldn’t touch a story like this.

Obama’s Jarrett: ‘People Who Receive that Unemployment Check Go Out and Spend It and Help Stimulate the Economy’

This evening [Feb 21, 2012,] speaking at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said that folks getting and spending unemployment checks is a healthy thing . . . because it stimulates the economy:

“Even though we had a terrible economic crisis three years ago, throughout our country many people were suffering before the last three years, particularly in the black community,” Jarrett said. “And so we need to make sure that we continue to support that important safety net. It not only is good for the family, but it’s good for the economy. People who receive that unemployment check go out and spend it and help stimulate the economy, so that’s healthy as well.”

As Jonathon M. Seidl from The Blaze said, “While the audio may sound incredible, the argument has been paraded out before. In August, Press Secretary Jay Carney said nearly the same thing:

“It is one of the most direct ways to infuse money directly into the economy because people who are unemployed and obviously aren’t running a paycheck are going to spend the money that they get. They’re not going to save it, they’re going to spend it. And with unemployment insurance, that way, the money goes directly back into the economy, dollar for dollar virtually.”

Let’s look at that a little closer. Unemployment checks -- the money you get for not having a job -- actually create jobs? Really? Money for not having a job creates jobs? Doesn’t that seem to be a bastardization of trickle-down economics, with a communist flavor? Aren’t businesses -- not the unemployed -- the job creators? And with that logic, should we just put everyone on the dole?

Seidl points out that, then just a week later, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack went on MSNBC to make the case that food stamps are job creators:

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack told MSNBC’s Morning Joe that the Obama administration has a jobs program already in place -- and it’s food stamps. When asked about new numbers that show one in every seven Americans now receiving food stamps from the federal government, Vilsack said that’s good news. Food stamps create jobs, Vilsack insisted, and managed to even come up with a new multiplier effect number:

Back at the time, Ed Morrissey of Hot Air asked:

So here’s the question. If food stamps create jobs, like Vilsack says here, and we’re putting record numbers of Americans on food stamps, then why aren’t we seeing record job creation? If every dollar spent on food stamps creates $1.84 in production, as Vilsack argues, and the number of food stamp recipients keeps rising, then why haven’t the GDP numbers reflected that fabulous growth?

There are two answers. . . The supposed multiplier effect does not take into consideration the cost of taking capital from the private sector, where it can be put to use for actual growth and job creation, for use by the government.

The other answer? The multiplier effect is completely bogus. For one thing, much of the money gets absorbed by the government bureaucracies that manage these programs. Second, as I alluded earlier, the evidence we see all around us shows us that we can’t get economic growth through government welfare programs.  If what Vilsack said was true, we’d be better off seizing all income and handing out food stamps. 

There are good humanitarian and social reasons for safety-net programs like unemployment insurance and food stamps, but economic growth isn’t one of them. The rise in both are indicators of failing economics.

Which brings us back to, “Money for not having a job creates jobs? Doesn’t that seem to be a bastardization of trickle-down economics, with a communist flavor? Aren’t businesses -- not the unemployed -- the job creators? And with that logic, should we just put everyone on the dole?”

Yeah, I guess so... until you run out of other people’s money (thank you, Margaret Thatcher.)

How do you even talk to people who have logic(?) like this?

We’ve come to a point in time where Democrats and Republicans can’t even talk together anymore. 

I truly believe that I’ll see a civil war in my lifetime. And it won’t be too civil.

Solyndra -- Or, How Green Grows Obimbo's Campaign Slush Fund.

Newly released communications regarding the loan approval for Solyndra, the now failed California solar energy company, show direct intervention by an Energy Department adviser and Obama campaign fundraiser, and raise new questions of possible involvement by Rahm Emanuel and the President.  As more is learned, it becomes increasingly clear that the Administration used the Stimulus, and specifically the green energy loan program, as a campaign slush fund to distribute billions of dollars like party favors to supporters and to grandstand for re-election to a perceived constituency.

By mid-2009, the White House was obsessing to make headlines with an announcement of a $535 million loan to Solyndra as the first of many green energy loans in the DOE's pipeline that would be funded by the recently passed Stimulus.  Initially the staff tried to schedule an announcement by Obama, and later as approval was delayed, they shifted to the Vice-President. 

"Ron said this morning that the POTUS definitely wants to do this (or Rahm definitely wants the POTUS to do this?)," a White House staffer told an Obama scheduler on August 17, 2009 according to The Washington Post.  This was a reference to Ron Klain, Chief of Staff at that time for the Vice-President. "Rahm" refers to Rahm Emanuel, Chief of Staff to the President. 

The Solyndra loan was finally approved in September 2009 over a plethora of warnings and objections from within the Department of Energy, the Office of Management and Budget, and numerous private and solar industry experts.  

Following the company's collapse, questions have haunted the White House of possible political corruption and cronyism as investigations revealed that executives and investors in Solyndra were also significant donors to the Obama campaign with repeated access to top White House officials.  In addition, critics charge that the administration disregarded objective financial analysis, and blindly threw billions of taxpayer dollars at green energy companies like Solyndra with little chance of success. 

Oblivious to the warnings from his own White House advisers that the company was in serious trouble and would run out of cash in September, 2010 (and it did), Obama visited the Solyndra headquarters in May 2010 and hailed it as "leading the way toward a brighter and more prosperous future."  

The Washington Post  is also reporting that Steve Spinner, a major Obama 2008 campaign fundraiser, later appointed by the White House to "advise" the Department of Energy regarding the green energy loan program, applied heavy pressure on DOE officials for approval of the $535 million loan guarantee for Solyndra. 

"How (expletive) hard is this?  What is he waiting for?" Spinner wrote to a DOE official by email on Aug. 28, 2009 questioning why the Solyndra application was not already approved.  "I have the OVP (Office of the Vice-President) and the WH (White House) breathing down my neck on this.  They are getting itchy to get involved." 

Later the same day, Spinner asked the same DOE official to "walk over there and force him to give you the answer." 

In another exchange just minutes after getting an email from Solyndra, Spinner fired off a message to the DOE officials asking if the White House budget office (OMB) had completed their review.  "Any word on OMB?  Solyndra's getting nervous," he wrote.  

The loan was pushed through, and on September 4, 2009 Joe Biden announced by video link the deal as the "unprecedented investment this Administration is making in renewable energy and exactly what the Recovery Act (Stimulus) is all about." 

Spinner's involvement is in direct contradiction of previous representations by the DOE.  Spinner had specifically recused himself from the Solyndra application because his wife's law firm, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, represented the company on the DOE loan and pocketed $2.4 million in legal fees for their efforts.  

The AP reports that an administration official, speaking on condition that he not be identified because of ongoing investigations in the evolving scandal, said that Spinner "clearly was actively involved in facilitating between DOE and OMB." 

Joe Biden was partially correct -- unfortunately.  Solyndra is typical of what the billions of Stimulus dollars tossed around by the Obama Administration was "all about" -- about waste, cronyism, and corruption.  The taxpayer is on the hook for $535 million, but before this is done some once big shots in Washington will deservedly be cut down to size.

As Dizzy Dean (and probably the greatest linguist of all times) used to say, "Who woulda thunk it?" 

Let’s Party Like It’s 1917.

Erick Erickson’s post in REDSTATE this morning hits the X ring. His headline (Let’s Party Like It’s 1917) and the description of the DNC’s logo for the 2012 convention as being ‘Soviet chic,’ couldn’t be more accurate. 

When the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, I had a feeling of, ‘So what? There’ll just be another faction to take its place.’ It’s just that I wasn’t expecting it to be the good ol’ US of A’s Democratic party. I don’t know why not. The Democratic party has been leaning that way for... oooh, some say since about since LBJ (may he rot in hell.) I say for at least the last 60-70 years -- maybe longer. Obimbo came in and double-timed the movement and shook America to the core. For some, it was a ‘Duuh’ moment. For others, it was the classic ‘I’ve-been-trying-to-tell-you-so!’ moment.

With Barack Obama’s class warfare speech yesterday, it seems the President’s 2012 campaign theme will be to party like its 1917. In a speech right out of a European socialist’s playbook, Barack Obama kept referring to basic fairness when demanding job creators pay more in taxes. Consider Obama’s online mouthpiece, Think Progress, rushing to his defense by, in essence, saying Obama’s plan isn’t class warfare because it does not go as far as the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1929. 

You actually should read the Think Progress post because actually what the writer claims is “strikingly different from a modern progressive agenda” is actually pretty darn similar, including an income tax to confiscate capital income -- something Obama’s Buffett tax seems to do. 

In any event, what Barack Obama nor any other leftist can answer is one simple question -- when the top 1% generate 20% of the income and pay 40% of the taxes in this country, what exactly is their fair share? 

But now it gets even worse. Yesterday I told you Obama wants to use General Motors as a distraction from Solyndra. Today it appears he is using Warren Buffett to distract us from raiding banks to line General Motors’ pockets, or at least the government’s because of the GM bailout. 

In Barack Obama’s deficit plan, he intends to raid American banks to make up the losses from the auto bailout. There’s just one problem. While hiding behind TARP to justify this raid, with costs that will be passed on to consumers, Obama is punishing the most successful banks putting them in a position to fail. At the same time, the Dodd-Frank bill guarantees no bank is too big to fail, so he is creating another bank bailout situation. 

Basically, the President wants to raise fees on banks with more than $50 billion in assets, i.e. the most successful banks. The weak banks that benefited the most from TARP will not actually be the ones to cover the auto bailout’s losses. The rich banks that needed the least help will shell out to cover the auto bailout and then find themselves among the ranks of weak banks. 

It’s not just individual wealth redistribution the President is championing here. He’s picking winners and losers in the free market and ensuring that some of the winners he does not like are forced to become losers. It’s corporate wealth redistribution to corporations the President picks. 

Considering both the inflation the American people are experiencing and the taxation Barack Obama wants to impose, you’d be forgiven for thinking he said “The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.” Of course, that was Vladimir Lenin. Too inflammatory for you? Just go back to Think Progress and consider, in their claims that Obama’s position is too mild to be considered class warfare, just how similar Barack Obama’s new tax schemes are to the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1929 -- complete with a “graduated income tax to confiscate capital income”, i.e. a necessary component of any surtax on millionaires just for the sake of taxing millionaires.

Actually, I think Obimbo may be the Socialists/Marxists/Democrats own worst enemy. The Democrats were doing pretty good while the rest of us were too busy WORKING and trying to make a living. We were ‘asleep.’ Obimbo, by fast-forwarding everything, opened our eyes to what was really going on and stirred the sleeping giant. At least, I HOPE the rest of us are the sleeping giant.

Like I said, Erickson’s post hits the X ring. Speaking of X rings and targets, that’s exactly what I’ve found the Demonics logo useful for... target practice. Thanks, Demonics! I knew that if you REALLY put your mind to it, you could come up with SOMETHING useful.

'The Speech'... Why Waste Bandwidth?

At first, I wasn't even going to waste the bandwidth to do a post on 'The Speech.' 

"How can you comment on something you DIDN'T EVEN WATCH," you ask?

Simple. It doesn't take a mental giant to figure out the path The Chosen One's BS is going to take you on.

Apparently (from everything that I've had to hear, read and see,) Obimbo -- ONCE AGAIN -- lived up to my expectations BEYOND my wildest dreams.

Mickey Kaus, a Democrat pundit who ran against Boxer in the last election wrote this

I realize that $447 billion isn't much (not when you put 14 trillion next to it)... and we'll just pay it back in ten years... (say it real fast and you'll never notice it) but what about the $862 billion stimulus program for jobs in 2010? That one averaged out to be $278,000 for each job that WASN'T created and that money is GONE. 

Poof.

Just like that -- GONE -- with nothing to show for it (except, now, we OWE SOMEBODY a LOT of MONEY.) Now, ANOTHER $447 billion to see if THIS one will work? 

Other than being about half of what was shoved down a rat hole the first time, what's the difference? 

For me, the lyrics to an old Jerry Jeff Walker song keep coming to mind about Obimbo and his administration... "I've been taken again."

There are so many quotes Yogi Berra had that pertain to Obimbo -- “It’s déjà vu all over again” applies to the following article. And, from an equally brilliant man, Albert Einstein, a definition of Obimbo and his minions -- “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Obama Calls for More Federal Money for Roads, Bridges and Airports to Create Jobs 

In his weekly address on Saturday, President Barack Obama called for Congress to approve more money for a new -- and vaguely defined -- program to repair roads, bridges and airports as a means of creating jobs for construction workers.

Uhhh, so WHERE’S this money COMING FROM? (That’s a rhetorical question.)

The program, Obama said, would create jobs for workers who used to build houses by “by giving loans to companies that want to repair our roads and bridges and airports.”

And, as if this were something new:

The president did not explain how loaning money to a company that wants to help repair a road, bridge or airport would cause more roads, bridges or airports to be repaired and thus necessitate the hiring of more construction workers to repair them.

Another Berra quote (“I really didn’t say everything I said.”) comes to mind for the following -- 

He also gave no details of the loan program he envisions—who would qualify for a government loan under it or on what terms the lenders would pay the taxpayers back.

However, he did call the loans one of the “commonsense steps” he is proposing to get the American economy growing again. 

Obama said these “commonsense steps” will help the economy and lead America to a “brighter day.”

The only “commonsense step” that will help the economy and lead America to a “brighter day” would be for this to happen:






And that has as much of a chance of happening as the proverbial snowball’s chance. Still, it makes me smile and wish... and take a trip into La-La Land.

Stimulus Scam: $7 Million Per Home For Broadband.

Again, when I started out this morning, I was going to do a piece on Eric Holder and the calls for his removal. Then, I got caught up in the broadband Internet stimulus thing. 

I do want to put this in about Holder, though. In case you missed my comment in the "Obama Administration to Implement More Gun Control Without Congress" post -- he dodged the bullet again (no pun intended.)

...Holder was also involved in Clinton’s decision (see Career -- Deputy Attorney General) to reduce the criminal sentences of 16 members of the Boricua Popular Army, an organization that has been categorized by the FBI as a terrorist organization. The clemency request was initially opposed in 1996 by U.S. Pardons Attorney Margaret Love. 

When Holder was elevated to Deputy Attorney General in 1997, he was asked to reexamine the issue by three members of Congress. In July 1999, Holder recommended clemency to Clinton with a report from then U.S. Pardons Attorney Roger Adams that neither supported nor opposed clemency. A month later, Clinton granted clemency. 

According to The Hartford Courant, the grant of clemency was unusual because it was opposed by the FBI, the federal prosecutor and the victims. According to the newspaper, it was also unusual because before the commutations, the Boricua Popular Army members were not required to repudiate their actions and were not asked to provide any information concerning the whereabouts of Victor Manuel Gerena, a co-conspirator and one of the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, or the millions of dollars stolen by the group in a 1983 robbery of Wells Fargo in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Taking into account that Holder has worked for crooks most of his career, what would you expect?


Okay. So, moving along, the broadband scam ties right in there with the job stimulus farce.

Stimulus Scam: $7 Million per Home for Broadband 

First came the report that President Obama’s stimulus package had cost taxpayers $278,000 for each job it created. Now comes the disclosure that the stimulus shelled out $7 million per home to bring broadband access to rural areas. 

“President Obama campaigned on expanding access to broadband Internet, and the stimulus afforded him an occasion for doling out federal dollars to that end,” Forbes.com columnist Nick Schulz observes. 

He cites a report by Jeffrey Eisenach and Kevin Caves of Navigant Economics, a consulting firm, which examined the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s subsidizing of rural broadband, designed to bring broadband access to homes without it. 

The two authors looked at three areas that received direct grants or loans from the stimulus package: southwestern Montana, northwestern Kansas, and northeastern Minnesota. 

They calculated that it cost $349,234 to bring broadband to each previously unserved household! 

But “it’s actually much worse than that,” according to Schulz, DeWitt Wallace fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. 

The Montana area included in the stimulus funding has as many as seven broadband providers, including wireless, and “there were only seven households in the Montana region that could be considered without access,” Schulz writes. 

“So the cost of extending access in the Montana case comes to about $7 million for each additional household served.”

So much incompetency... so little time. 

Oil Stimulus Drains Away.

The White House decision to sell 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve has failed to stop the upward march of oil prices, or to stimulate the economy.

 

 Prices for crude oil and gasoline dipped on the June 23 announcement, but have subsequently risen because expanding economies in Asia and South America are bidding up the market price, according to oil industry analysts. 

President Barack Obama’s sale “did not make a damn bit of difference,” said Dan Kish, vice president for policy at the Institute for Energy Research. Eight days after the announcement, “the price of oil was higher than it was the day he announced” the release of oil from the reserve, Kish said. 

Oil prices fell roughly $4 a barrel to roughly $91 a barrel when the announcement was made. Since then, prices have climbed up to near $100 a barrel, according to an (sic) July 7 AP news report. Gas prices rise and fall in line with oil prices, and the national average price nudged up 1.4 cents on Thursday to reach $3.58 a gallon, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. That’s a price increase of 4.2 cents per gallon from a week ago. 

“Crude prices are back to where they were,” said Rayola Dougher, senior economic adviser at the American Petroleum Institute. “It was just a temporary blip.” 

Prices won’t come down, she said, until the federal government allows greater use of new energy resources being found in the United States and Canada. We need policymakers to face the facts, and make sure we have reliable, affordable supplies of fuel,” she said. 

The oil sale was another of the administration’s many regulatory and legislative efforts to jump-start the economy. These include the $787 billion economic stimulus in 2009, the ‘cash-for-clunkers” deal, the economic aid package given to General Motors and Chrysler and the “quantitative easing” money-creating policy adopted by the Federal Reserve. 

However, the economy remains stalled, and unemployment remains at 9.1 percent. In May only 36,000 new jobs were created, even as young people and immigrants boost the overall labor-force by roughly 100,000 people.

And that's what I would call a "well, duuuh" moment.
