Ask Harry Reid About Chinese Solar Panels.

I’m going to take the day off from bashing Obimbo. Yeah, it’s a hard thing to do, but I’m going to let Todd Cefaratti of The Tea Party.Net bash the second best person that I take great pleasure in despising... Harry Reid. Actually, it’s a close tie between Reid and Pelosi, but Reid’s got it today.

OK, the uniforms the US Olympic Team will be wearing in the London Games were made in China. They were not paid for with tax dollars but instead by Ralph Lauren who designed them and had them produced in one of his factories. It would have been nice to have them made here but thanks to overreaching unions, America really does not have much of a garment industry left. 

In an obvious pandering play to the union powers, Harry Reid was “outraged” by such a travesty. “The USOC should be embarrassed, they should be humiliated. ... Our athletes should not wear clothes manufactured in China.” He went on to say, “they should be placed in a pile and burned”. 

Forget for a moment how you feel about the uniform issue itself and consider Reid’s record on foreign manufacturing.  

Fact 1. The government gave now bankrupt solar panel manufacturer, Solyndra, nearly half a billion dollars for nothing. 

Fact 2. When Harry Reid pushed through funding and sweetheart land deals for a huge solar power generating facility near his home town in Nevada, the solar panels were purchased from his good friend, and Chinese manufacturing billionaire, Wang Yusuo. You guessed it, the panels installed in Nevada were made in China! 

I am sure it is a mere coincidence that Harry Reid’s son, Rory Reid, is employed as a lobbyist for the solar venture!

No need to thank me, folks. My duty and I saw it. I KNEW the lamestream media wouldn’t touch a story like this.

Why Obimbo’s Energy Policy Won’t Work (As If We Didn’t Already Know.)

The policy of Obimbo and his administration to drive gas prices higher, in order to force a switch to green energy, was doomed -- and idiotic -- from the moment it was thought of. 

Why?

Because:

1) The “shortage” of gas/oil is only politically driven.  

2) It can be changed by another politician once Obimbo is gone (hopefully, VERY soon.)

Any industry that builds up “green energy” under Obimbo’s administration is on shaky ground, politically. The game is over as soon (again, hopefully, VERY soon) as Obimbo is gone... or when someone comes up with a better idea. Frankly, any idea -- as long as it’s not Obimbo’s -- is a “better idea.”

The only thing that would force a switch to green energy would be if there was an actual shortage of oil. And that is the furthest thing from the truth. 

Back in the early 60’s, I was reading an Oil and Gas Journal article. The engineer/geologist was writing about how, if we never bought another barrel of oil from another source, we had enough known fields and reserves to last us until well into the mid 2000’s. At that time, I couldn’t even comprehend “the mid 2000’s!”

Remember, he was writing about “known” fields at that time. Remember, also, he was talking about using OUR own oil. Think of all the fields discovered since that time.

Now, there’s a study being done on “renewable” oil and gas and it seems to be proving more than a theory. “Renewable” meaning that certain fields (after becoming unproductive, to a certain degree) are being replenished by Earth, itself. I’ve always had a problem with the “Fossil Fuel” concept, anyway. I just never could figure out how that many dinosaurs and vegetation could die off to produce as much oil and gas that we have that’s “known.”

Go figure.

So, in terms of an energy revolution, this is idiotic at best. If you want people to have the money to invest in a new product, you don’t generate it by killing your economy and politically propping up an industry that’s going to blow over the moment the political winds shift.

Basically, all this amounts to is that Obimbo hates America and that we’re all going to suffer as long as he’s in office -- as if we didn’t already know that.

Obama Plays Pipeline Politics.

Kills 20,000 High Paying Jobs.

Afraid of angering environmentalists during a hotly debated election cycle, the Obama Administration has stalled a decision on construction of the Keystone Oil XL Pipeline -- and in the process killed the creation of over 20,000 high paying U.S. jobs. 

The Keystone XL Oil Pipeline is designed to increase the supply and availability of Canadian oil in America. Construction of the expanded pipeline alone will create an estimated 20,000 high paying jobs desperately needed in this economic crisis. The project also reduces our reliance on foreign oil supplied by terror states.

Just by virtue of having grown up and having worked in the oil patch, I think Rep. Fred Upton (R) from Michigan has a FAR CLOSER estimate of the jobs created and the barrels of oil we’re losing EVERYDAY. Upton, who is chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, says that the pipeline project could create 100,000 jobs. Upton also said, “Why is it that we’re not working with Canada, which will be producing more than 3 or 4 million barrels a day from oil sand ... ?”

But under pressure from leftwing constituency and radical environmental groups, Obama reversed his own Administration’s approval of the project, and has stalled it until after the 2012 general election. 

Claiming more research needs to be done to identify environmental impact, the Obama State Department has been interposed to delay the decision until 2013. 

The timing of the planned decision is of course the worst possible example of an Administration that cares more for the vainglory of re-election than for the needs of the American citizens it purports to represent.

By delaying the decision, Obama is attempting to escape a potential no win political situation. If the Administration approves the pipeline, they will lose the support of their extremist Left environmental base. If the Administration denies the project, they run the risk of alienating workers and middle class voters who care less about ideology and more about the current state of joblessness in America. 

So, the Obama Administration has chosen to posture as unable to do anything until after the election, when it will no longer matter who they offend.

Canada is losing money everyday that the pipline isn’t built. AND, it’s gonna get built... right to CANADA’S western coast and then go straight to CHINA!

Solyndra -- Or, How Green Grows Obimbo's Campaign Slush Fund.

Newly released communications regarding the loan approval for Solyndra, the now failed California solar energy company, show direct intervention by an Energy Department adviser and Obama campaign fundraiser, and raise new questions of possible involvement by Rahm Emanuel and the President.  As more is learned, it becomes increasingly clear that the Administration used the Stimulus, and specifically the green energy loan program, as a campaign slush fund to distribute billions of dollars like party favors to supporters and to grandstand for re-election to a perceived constituency.

By mid-2009, the White House was obsessing to make headlines with an announcement of a $535 million loan to Solyndra as the first of many green energy loans in the DOE's pipeline that would be funded by the recently passed Stimulus.  Initially the staff tried to schedule an announcement by Obama, and later as approval was delayed, they shifted to the Vice-President. 

"Ron said this morning that the POTUS definitely wants to do this (or Rahm definitely wants the POTUS to do this?)," a White House staffer told an Obama scheduler on August 17, 2009 according to The Washington Post.  This was a reference to Ron Klain, Chief of Staff at that time for the Vice-President. "Rahm" refers to Rahm Emanuel, Chief of Staff to the President. 

The Solyndra loan was finally approved in September 2009 over a plethora of warnings and objections from within the Department of Energy, the Office of Management and Budget, and numerous private and solar industry experts.  

Following the company's collapse, questions have haunted the White House of possible political corruption and cronyism as investigations revealed that executives and investors in Solyndra were also significant donors to the Obama campaign with repeated access to top White House officials.  In addition, critics charge that the administration disregarded objective financial analysis, and blindly threw billions of taxpayer dollars at green energy companies like Solyndra with little chance of success. 

Oblivious to the warnings from his own White House advisers that the company was in serious trouble and would run out of cash in September, 2010 (and it did), Obama visited the Solyndra headquarters in May 2010 and hailed it as "leading the way toward a brighter and more prosperous future."  

The Washington Post  is also reporting that Steve Spinner, a major Obama 2008 campaign fundraiser, later appointed by the White House to "advise" the Department of Energy regarding the green energy loan program, applied heavy pressure on DOE officials for approval of the $535 million loan guarantee for Solyndra. 

"How (expletive) hard is this?  What is he waiting for?" Spinner wrote to a DOE official by email on Aug. 28, 2009 questioning why the Solyndra application was not already approved.  "I have the OVP (Office of the Vice-President) and the WH (White House) breathing down my neck on this.  They are getting itchy to get involved." 

Later the same day, Spinner asked the same DOE official to "walk over there and force him to give you the answer." 

In another exchange just minutes after getting an email from Solyndra, Spinner fired off a message to the DOE officials asking if the White House budget office (OMB) had completed their review.  "Any word on OMB?  Solyndra's getting nervous," he wrote.  

The loan was pushed through, and on September 4, 2009 Joe Biden announced by video link the deal as the "unprecedented investment this Administration is making in renewable energy and exactly what the Recovery Act (Stimulus) is all about." 

Spinner's involvement is in direct contradiction of previous representations by the DOE.  Spinner had specifically recused himself from the Solyndra application because his wife's law firm, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, represented the company on the DOE loan and pocketed $2.4 million in legal fees for their efforts.  

The AP reports that an administration official, speaking on condition that he not be identified because of ongoing investigations in the evolving scandal, said that Spinner "clearly was actively involved in facilitating between DOE and OMB." 

Joe Biden was partially correct -- unfortunately.  Solyndra is typical of what the billions of Stimulus dollars tossed around by the Obama Administration was "all about" -- about waste, cronyism, and corruption.  The taxpayer is on the hook for $535 million, but before this is done some once big shots in Washington will deservedly be cut down to size.

As Dizzy Dean (and probably the greatest linguist of all times) used to say, "Who woulda thunk it?"

We, as Americans, have to come to accept new Federal regulations as something we just have to live with. I think that is changing now. Every time I ask someone if they realized that we would no longer be able to buy our regular cheap light bulbs after December, they would be astonished and upset. Yeah, I know it’s a small thing, but it illustrates the government’s control over the people. They say we can’t have cheap light bulbs. They say we must use the more energy efficient ones (LED bulbs), even though they are a health hazard if broken, and much more expensive.

Thankfully, our lawmakers in Texas are doing something about it.

State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.

The measure, sent to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration, lets any incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas – and sold in that state – avoid the authority of the federal government or the repeal of the 2007 energy independence act that starts phasing out some incandescent light bulbs next year. 

“Let there be light,” state Rep. George Lavender, R-Texarkana, wrote on Facebook after the bill passed. “It will allow the continued manufacture and sale of incandescent light bulbs in Texas, even after the federal ban goes into effect. … It’s a good day for Texas.”

In my 67 years, I can count on two hands (and have a couple of fingers left over) the number of regular light bulbs that didn’t light up when first turned on or had a life of one week to two months when they were used. On the other hand (no pun intended,) I’ve bought six of the LED bulbs in the past year. Of those six, two wouldn’t even come on and the two had a life of one week to one month. That AIN’T a very good track record... especially at the price they gouge you for. I decided to let someone else be “green” and I went back to the good ol’ bulbs that LIT UP and stayed LIT UP. 


To add insult to injury,

The LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace the 100 watt light bulbs are projected to cost about $50 each, six times a regular light bulb. Proponents say that you will save more money though, through energy savings. I’m just not buying that with own my experience.
