Perhaps it would benefit the State of Michigan or even the US, at large, to just ceed Detroit to the Japanese. But then why would they want it?

DeleteI have it from a reliable source that the Japanese aren't interested in this piece of real-estate so here's another idea. Why not cordon it off and create a sort of monument/theme park dedicated to: Socialism, Communisim, the Democrat Party and all other manner of wealth re-distribution. While this legacy would remain in tact, as it presently exists, it could be embellished with statues memorializing the "movers and shakers" who made it all possible. Such could include but not be limited to: Karl Marx,Walter Reuther, Jimmy Hoffa, Michael Moore, Sam Webb as well as all of the mayors who have served in the last 60 years, or so. Just imagine the exciting guided tours and actual encounters with real time natives. Unlike the class trip that I attended in 1960 when we got to see [production] in process at Dearborn, students , along with their unionized teachers, will be able to marvel at the results of what they are being taught today. Well, I just see endless possibilities; it's time to act-NOW!

I started out with word verification off, Kid. It was going pretty good for awhile and I didn't use it. Then, I started getting hit with real spam (nonsensical lines of text, paragraphs from books, someone saying how great the post was and visit them at 'Vacuum Cleaners R Us' -- you know the drill. My iPhone was dinging constantly with the stuff coming here.

I heard Detroit had 1.5 million not too many years ago and now has something like 500,000...big loss in tax dollars.

I saw them tear down the miles long J&L Steel plant and others. It's a new world, and much of it will be torn down.
On the other hand, some foreign companies are opening plants in the US. I don't see this country raising its middle class anytime soon though. Not with the debt load and all the parasites going exponential.

I wish I could have known your grandfather. Back in the old days (which really hasn't been that long ago,) the people were coming here to be AMERICANS. They weren't necessarily shedding their heritage, but neither were they trying to impose it on their new-found home.
